I'm Going on an Adventure!

Although I’m sadly not going anywhere with Bilbo, I am going on a month long adventure beginning July 1st. It is unlike anything I’ve ever attempted before, and I am anticipating that it will test my patience and shake my emotional endurance to the core.

What is this adventure? National Novel Writing Month Camp!

National Novel Writing Month (www.nanowrimo.org) is technically in November, but they do “camps” during the summer, and it’s essentially doing the same thing, only in July. What exactly will I be doing? Attempting to write a 50,000 word novel in one month! …Yerp.

Since I finished the first draft of my novel Hunted this last week (!!!!!!!!), I am starting a new project, a Star Wars fanfiction starring the epic Ben Skywalker. If you don’t know who he is, seriously go read the expanded universe books, they’re amazing. If you don’t have time right now, I’ll tell you that Ben is the son of Luke Skywalker and his wife Mara Jade. I might *cough* have a little bit of a fictional character crush on him…which is why I am writing a full length fanfiction about him ;)

Ben Skywalker on the front of Backlash, from the Fate of the Jedi series.

I will try to give ya’ll short weekly updates during July. You might find it entertaining to observe my emotional swings and how I cope when my plot isn’t cooperating :P I have a couple of amazing friends accompanying me in this quest, so wish us all luck!

Until the end of week one…

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...

Yeah, we both know how this is gonna end, but nevertheless: SUPERMAN!

Today, I went to go see Man of Steel with my dad, and it was really good! I love superhero movies, but have rarely emerged from the realm of the Avengers franchise. While those shall forever remain my favorite, Man of Steel was entertaining, and the acting was very captivating. Not knowing much about the story of Superman beforehand made the plot unpredictable and kept my attention the whole way through. Oh, and if you're planning on watching the movie and don't want to have any minor spoilers, I'd advise that you stop reading :P But I won't reveal anything major, I promise.

The movie begins on Krypton, where the planet is facing an unstoppable disaster. To save his life, Kal-El is sent by his parents to earth. He grows up as Clark Kent, unaware of his alien parentage, but knowing that something about him is different. Like the glowing red eyes. And the incredible Hulk-like strength. I mean seriously, the kid pushed a sinking bus out of the water. He later meets Lois Lane, who is played by Amy Adams. I have to admit, her presence in this movie was partly the reason I went to go see it; Amy is one of my favorite actresses, and she didn't disappoint. Then again, I've always had a weakness for people with red hair.

I won't elaborate further on the plot, as I want you to go see if for yourself :) But I will say that I enjoyed Man of Steel immensely. And heck, if you don't, it's still a couple hours watching Henry Cavill fly around in a fairly tight superhero suit :D I swear, his face has muscles...

If I had anything negative to say, it would be concerning the flashbacks. Now, I've always been told as a writer to only use flashbacks when absolutely necessary; that the audience is more interested in the here and now, and a flashback only slows down the pace of the story. Man of Steel contained quite a bit of back story that was explained through Clark's flashbacks. While most of this information was needed for the plot to make sense, there seemed to be just too many flashbacks, especially towards the beginning. We bounced back and forth between eras of Clark's life for long enough that I began to get a bit dizzy.

Nevertheless, I would recommend Man of Steel. If any of you guys have seen it, please comment and let me know what you thought. I am now going to finish watching The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with my grandma. Well, and my grandpa and aunt, but they're asleep :)

Until next time the world needs saving,
~Kelly

Welcome!

Greetings and salutations! Welcome to my blog. My name is Kelly, and as you can tell from the title, I am a geek, and I love it! But even more importantly, I am a born again Christian, and God has given me the gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. God has changed my life, and without Him, I am nothing. So, whoever you are, I want to tell you that God has a plan just for YOU! He loves you very much, and wants to be in a relationship with you.

Back to the geekiness…I am a Jedi Master, Whovian, Trekkie, Ringer, Mockingjay, Avenger, Sherlockian, member of SG-1, and Narnian. Yes, I have many fandoms. Yes, I obsess over them (‘tis why I have created this blog :D Although there may be a few ungeeky posts). While this isn’t really geeky, ya’ll should know I am a country girl, and am quite obsessed with country music.

I am also an aspiring writer, working to glorify God and point people to Him through my work. Even though I’m just getting started, I really enjoy the art of crafting stories, and I create both original tales and fanfiction. If any of you are more experienced authors, please feel free to give me any advice you might have!

Well, I think that’s all the important stuff! I’m really looking forward to geeking out with you in the future (or whenever…it’s all wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey…)
Allons-y,
May the Force be with you,
Live long and prosper,
May the odds be ever in your favor,
And God bless!
~Kelly
